The provinces involved
Postpone the opening of the next hunting season by a month. This is the formal request that Confagricoltura Milano, Lodi, Monza and Brianza sent to the General Directorate of Agriculture of the Lombardy Region. The request for postponement from September 15th, the date identified for the official start of the activities of hunting in Lombardy, at least the first ten days of October is motivated by the serious repercussions of the long spring season of bad weather, followed by more recent adverse weather conditions, which affected the entire regional territory, including the three provinces of Milan, Lodi and Monza Brianza.
Agricultural countryside at risk
«Among the numerous and serious consequences of this climatic situation, which, as we have already denounced several times, is putting the agricultural campaign at serious risk, there are also significant delays in agricultural activities, particularly in sowing. The risk is that the start of hunting coincides with the full implementation of harvesting operations, compromising everyone's safety and the effective carrying out of agricultural work", explains Francesco Pacchiarini, President of Confagricoltura interprovinciale.
Wave of bad weather
The overlap of the two activities, in fact, would not facilitate hunting and would be a hindrance to businesses: «Unfortunately – continues Pacchiarini – some of the repercussions that we had foreseen following the long wave of bad weather and therefore the mismatch in cultivation programs are already coming true. Our organization has been moving for some time to promptly request compensation and postponements of deadlines affecting the agricultural world, but we are also ready to face the urgencies that will arise as the situation evolves. For the greater serenity and protection of everyone, it is now important that the Region accepts our appeal, so as to allow farmers to complete their work without further complications" (source: Confagricoltura).
