Direct control of wild animals
The agreement between is coming soon Municipality of Frosinone and the Lazio Region to implement a series of direct control interventions to combat the presence of wild boars in the Frosinone area. “The agreement that the administration will sign with the Lazio Region – declared Mayor Riccardo Mastrangeli – goes in the direction of consolidating collaboration between entities, for the benefit of citizens. The Municipality of Frosinone, aware of the critical issues that this animal species creates in the area, wanted to create an initiative, in concert with the regional bodies, to meet the needs of citizens, farmers and all those who travel on our roads. Thanks in particular should be addressed to councilor Antonio Scaccia and councilor Franco Carfagna for their efforts in following this initiative step by step".
Not just rural areas
“The presence of wild boars within the municipal territory – declared the deputy mayor and councilor for the environment Antonio Scaccia – found not only in rural areas, but also in the areas adjacent to the town centre, can constitute a risk whenever the animals close to crops, inhabited areas and roads. The municipal environmental offices have already drawn up a mapping of the sightings in correspondence with the areas in which the interventions will be carried out. In detail, with the entry into force of the convention, a series of structures for the capture of wild boars will be located in these areas so that they can be removed from our territory. A specialized company will manage the various operations, with the supervision of our municipal offices."
A national problem
“The municipal administration, with the convention that will be adopted, will do its part in containing the proliferation of wild boars, a national problem. The Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry, Francesco Lollobrigida, has in fact underlined how it constitutes an undeniable health emergency, which causes enormous damage to public safety, the health system and enormous damage to economic activities, thus making the modification necessary of the art. 19 of law 157/1992 with the simplification of the procedures for the adoption of control plans approved by the regions and for the implementation of the plans in a rapid and effective manner – declared the municipal councilor Franco Carfagna – The regional plan goes in the same direction of interventions for the management, control and eradication of African swine fever in the wild boar species, highly contagious and often lethal for animals, not transmissible to humans. Containing the serious risks of the spread of African swine fever and adopting control systems for the wild boar species, in fact, means reducing the health risks as well as the relative economic impact that the epidemic can cause on the entire Italian pig sector. The negative effects of the presence of wild boars are numerous, including, as mentioned, the danger in terms of public safety and circulation. I thank, on my behalf and that of my entire council group, Mayor Mastrangeli, councilor Scaccia and the municipal offices who worked with great dedication and punctuality on the drafting of the protocol which will be signed shortly" (source: Municipality of Frosinone) .
