The former minister's comment
“It's just disgusting what has happened and happens all the time in our woods during hunting season.” Thus, on his Facebook page, the Hon. Michele Vittoria Brambilla, president of the Italian League for the Defense of Animals and the Environment, comments on the killing of the Bambotto deer, mascot of Pecol, a hamlet of San Tomaso Agordino (Belluno). The animal, which ate from the hands of its human friends and was cuddled until it fell asleep, was killed in recent days.
Very specific accusations
“Bambotto – recalls the Hon. Brambilla – was born 7 years ago and was adopted by the entire population of the town. He lived peacefully with them, until a heartless 23-year-old hunter killed him for fun, protected by the law that allows hunting. How much courage does it take to kill a creature that eats from your hands and sleeps on the doormat at home? You feel great maybe, but you're just a murderer.
A cowardly act
Taking the lives of wonderful living creatures, as a pastime for people without empathy or mercy, is a vile and cruel act. Bambotto trusted the worst beast on the planet, man. We citizens who all love animals are deeply outraged and can no longer tolerate facts like these. Bambotto, strictly speaking, wasn't even "wild", for the inhabitants of Pecol he was a friend. Great strength, great courage to kill an animal like that!”.
