Alleged hunting attacks
Giampiero Sammuri, biologist and specialist in public administration, also enters the debate raised by the open letter sent signed by some exponents of the environmentalist and associative world to the Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in defense of ISPRA from alleged attacks by the hunting world. An expert in protected areas and author of over 30 publications in the zoological and environmental fields, with prominent roles in his curriculum including that of President of the Maremma Park, professor of management of protected areas at the University of Siena, President of the Italian Federation of Parks and Natural Reserves and President of the Tuscan Archipelago National Park, Samuri has entrusted his reflections to an article published on Greenreport.
The Institute's opinions
Retracing the events related to the letter and the positions taken on the matter by some exponents of the political world, Sammuri essentially asks himself "whether those who (rightly) defend ISPRA for the opinions it gives on hunting calendars are willing to do the same when the Institute expresses favorable opinions for the eradication of the Fallow Deer in the Circeo National Park or in the Pineta di Classe and in the Mesola forest to protect the Italian deer, of the Mouflon on the island of Giglio, of the grey squirrel in many areas of Italy, of the Beaver in central Italy, to remove some problematic bears in Trentino or for the culling of some wolves. Or when it expresses a favorable opinion on the hunting calendar of the Abruzzo region with regards to hunting the Deer".
A question of fan bases
In short, ISPRA would appear to be right or wrong "depending on which 'fan base' it represents". A thought that for Sammuri is "equally ridiculous". (Photo taken from the Tuscan Archipelago Park website).
