The animal-environmentalist appeal
In the last few hours, the discussion of the appeal against the hunting calendar of Umbria has officially begun as regards the 2022-2023 season. The application was presented by various animal and environmental associations, namely WWF, LIPU, Legambiente, LAV, LAC and ENPA, while on the other side there are the Umbria Region, Federcaccia and Libera Caccia.
The disputed dates
In particular, the administrative judges are called to investigate the closure dates chosen for specific huntable species. According to the appellants, January 30 is a deadline to contest, taking a cue from ISPRA and Key Concepts, for species such as thrushes, waterfowl and woodcock. In this regard, animal rights and environmental associations have proposed other closures.
The applicants' proposals
For example, January 10 has been suggested for the song thrush, as well as for redwing and fieldfare. On the other hand, January 20 is the day proposed for snipes, whisks, coots, gurnards, water rails, teals, garganeys, wigeons, pintails, gadwalls, mallards, shovelers and tufted ducks. Finally, December 31st is the closure deemed suitable for the woodcock. Only the verdict is awaited.
