Double Trap World Championship: Peru, Jacopo Trevisan wins the junior silver medal; team bronze medal for Senior and Junior.
Jacopo Trevisan at the end of the race that gave him world silver. Twenty years of Orgiano (VI), he was at the top of the provisional ranking up to the fourth series. In the fifth and final, decisive as the Juniors do not compete in the semifinals and medal matches, the Italian player managed the load of responsibility badly by signing the worst series of the entire race (24/30), which penalized him so much that he slipped into second position with 132/150. Two more targets would have been enough for him to stay ahead of the American Ian Rupert, the new Junior World Champion with 133. On the third step of the podium the Russian Kiril Fokeev with 130. Too bad for Andrea Vescovi. The young athlete of the Fiamme Oro of Città di Castello (PG) shot well and, between ups and downs, was at the top of the ranking until the fourth series. Unfortunately, the 21/30 of the last cut him out of the game for the podium, relegating him to ninth position with a total of 124/150. The third Italian player in the race is even further behind. Lorenzo Belei from Bonsciano Trestina (PG), also a member of the Fiamme Oro, but life was already complicated in the third series, signing a 20/30 that left little chance of recovery. In the end he totaled 116 which led him to 13th square. The scores of the three, a total of 372, lead the Italian team to bronze in the competition for nations, behind the United States, first with 382, and Russia, second with 377.
As for the Senior race, we cannot give the complete data yet. In fact, due to a delay in the competition, the semifinal was delayed considerably. At the moment we only have the qualifiers data. The Americans Derek Haldeman (141/150), Walton Eller (137), the Chinese Binyan HU (137) and Hao Wang (135), the Maltese William Chetcuti (136) deserve the right of access to the semifinal. The Australian Russell Mark and the Russian Vassily Mosin are competing for the last available spot at 134. None of the Azzurri has made it.
The best of the Italians was Antonino Barillà (Navy) of Villa San Giuseppe (RC). The Calabrian shooter was unable to find the perfect series, not going beyond the 28/30 of the second. In the others he made a 27, two 26 and a 25 which added together bring him to an altitude of 132. For him only 10th place. Davide Gasparini (Army) from Gabicce Mare (PU) started badly with a 23/30, far below his usual average. Resuming the march with a 27 and a 29, in the fourth series he stumbled again on a 23 that thwarted both the efforts made to recover and those put on the platform to sign a 29/30 in the last series. With a total of 131 points he is eleventh.
Even for Daniele Di Spigno the day was not the best. The policeman from Terracina, already multiple world champion, started with two 26/30s before falling to a 24 in the third series. Completing the day with a 28 and a 24 he settled on an average of 26/30 closing at 130 in 13th position. Overall, the Azzurri totaled 393/450 enough to get on the third step of the team podium. The United States is first with 406 and China is second with 404.
