Wearable enthusiasts
The difficulties that have emerged in the last year, both at European and Italian level, in relation to turtle dove hunting there have been quite a few, and to these are added, as usual, a few days before the scheduled date the appeals to the TAR. Despite this, some regions will deservingly manage to chase it away before the opening. There could be many comments on the current situation and the dissatisfaction of many enthusiasts is understandable. But precisely in this context, the reality is that if we as an Association, in particular through the ATC, and the hunting world as a whole, do not concretely take action, this historic and traditional form of hunting is destined to end. We are certainly not the only bodies that should contribute to the Management Plan, so the work of raising awareness and supporting the Regions must be continued. But we hunters must show results first.
Collections from recent years
For this reason we are here once again to roll up our sleeves and ask for your help in delivering or sending photos of the wings of the doves that will be cut down. Today more than ever, these data will be useful (along with environmental restoration activities) to defend turtle dove hunting on every table. In the last 8 years we have collected over 5000 wings and it would be a shame to stop now. Remember: every single contribution, even apparently small, can make a difference for all hunters, even those who will not be able to practice this form of hunting this year. Trusting in the widest possible collaboration, good luck for the rest of the season.
USEFUL INFORMATION FOR COLLECTING ALI OR SENDING PHOTOGRAPHS
There are two ways to participate in the project and make your contribution: physically sending the wings of the wild animals killed or a photograph of them. For each shipment use only one or the other method. How to proceed with sending the photographs?
Photograph turtle doves with their wings open.
Indicate the day and the province of felling in the email with which you send the photos.
Send only one photograph for each turtle dove or group of turtle doves. If the photo didn't turn out well, take another one, but never send more than one.
Photographs should be sent to the following addresses: [email protected] or [email protected]
WING COLLECTION
We always recommend sending them in paper envelopes and not plastic ones, to avoid the creation of mould. We ask you to dry the wings by keeping them open and placing coarse salt on the parts where there is still meat. Once the drying process is complete (a couple of days in the sun or on the radiator is enough) you can bag the wings and send them to the usual address. It is advisable to carry out this procedure on the day of killing and not once defrosted to maintain the maximum quality of the wing reading and have quicker and more effective drying.
