Habitat Directive
With 371 votes in favour and 162 against the Lupo has been definitively downgraded within the Habitats Directive. Member States will now be able to initiate any exceptional removal plans, where the species' populations reach densities that create problems for human activities, such as extensive livestock farming.
Strategic Rural Activities
This is what MEP Anna Cisint (Lega-Patrioti per l'Europa) states in her note: "A victory for common sense, now member states like Italy, must act quickly to resolve critical issues that, in many areas, are leading to the abandonment of strategic rural activities for the maintenance of the environment and small peripheral communities".
A rich and precious biodiversity
“Small farms, sheep farming and mountain huts allow us to keep alive not only tourist enjoyment, linked to the production of niche products, but also the conservation of a rich and precious biodiversity, which we remember is today among the most fragile, typical of animal and plant species linked to grazing areas”.
