We return to celebrate today all over the world Earth Day, edition number 52 of perhaps the largest international event to raise awareness of environmental sustainability and protection and safeguarding of the planet. This year's theme is an invitation to invest in our future. A future that appears increasingly threatened by many now known objective causes: climate change, neglect, abandonment, pollution, hydrogeological instability, overbuilding, anthropization, consumption of fertile soils, often uncontrolled expansion of alien species and consequent loss of biodiversity ...
Situations that are well known by technicians and scientists, discussed, analyzed, but often not addressed concretely for the most diverse reasons, becoming good at best for yet another alarmist headline in the media, which will attract the attention of most of the citizens who, with a “Like”, will clear up their conscience by feeling ecologists. We hunters, fishermen, inhabitants of the rural areas, protagonists of ancient crafts or more simply people who are aware and not indoctrinated by salon ideologies, we are different. Our love and attention for the Earth, whose fruits we enjoy and take with gratitude and respect, in a sustainable and regulated way, we express it every day, living the territory and protecting it, keeping alive the rites and values of the rurality that around the connection with nature they were born and handed down and guided the life and evolution of society until this pact was dissolved for a part of it.
As hunters we create and preserve thousands of hectares of natural areas. The hunting interest directs resources towards the conservation of nature and constitutes a barrier to the loss of habitats and species. We invest huge resources in the study and conservation of species and the balance between them. And so we will also do today, on this symbolic day. Important yes, but for many, too many, limited to just one day and maybe a some digital event. But nature, to know it, love it and protect it, must be lived and attended all year round. Like us hunters we have always been used to doing, investing in our future and that of the rest of society. Happy Earth Day (source: Hunting Federation).
