It is celebrated today all over the world Earth Day. The anniversary falls unfortunately in full global crisis from COVID-19, with billions of people involved in the closure of schools, businesses, isolation and social distancing measures. This also prevented the realization of theOperation Paladins of the Territory, which should have taken place on this occasion: a set of recovery and protection actions in areas affected by pollution promoted by UNA Foundation, protagonists the hunters together with the local populations and that had seen a massive adhesion of the Federcaccia sections.
The appointment is only postponed to another date and as soon as there is the possibility we will give concrete application to the desire of the hunting world of actively contribute to the preservation and care of green areas and, in general, the environment. The protagonists will be the Italian territories of Sicily, Sardinia, Calabria, Puglia, Lazio, Abruzzo, Umbria, Marche, Tuscany, Emilia-Romagna, Veneto, Lombardy and Valle d'Aosta ... where the "paladins", mostly hunters of individual areas, will intervene together with willing citizens to develop an organic cleaning work. This is just a small example of how Federcaccia and hunters are - not from today - sensitive to current and important issues such as environmental protection, safeguarding biodiversity, the effects of climate on territories and wild species.
A focus on concrete actions, ranging from the management and recovery of environments - from wetlands to mountain meadows - to interventions in ecological disasters, such as the recent one that hit the Valle della Canna, in the province of Ravenna, causing the disappearance of thousands of ducks, moreover, in a protected area that is forbidden to hunting, but which has practically seen only hunters intervene, getting their hands and boots dirty to try to stem the emergency and save as many wild animals as possible. Here because this Earth Day is also our day and because we strongly feel the commitment of an energetic, concrete and not ideological or glossy defense of the environment, fauna and territory. Because the environment belongs to those who practice it and not those who preach it, perhaps from a television lounge or a city penthouse.
