Hunting activity being redefined
The meeting between the leaders of the regional association Federcaccia Toscana-UCT and the President of the Tuscany Region Eugenio Giani, candidate of the centre-left in the next elections, has just ended in Florence. regional elections on October 12-13. Before a representative of the management team, Marco Salvadori, Regional President of Federcaccia Toscana-UCT, thanked President Giani for his availability and attention, and then outlined the main issues that will affect the subject in the next legislative session. "Hunting, starting in Tuscany, is undergoing a process of redefining its role and function in the conservation of wildlife and environmental resources and redefining the framework of agreements for re-establishing a fruitful relationship with the regional agricultural community," Salvadori stated. The time has come to redefine, also with the central government, the resource system—starting with an appropriate transfer of part of the government concession tax to the regions—and a new structure of the tasks and functions of the ATCs, to foster a virtuous pact between farmers and hunters, focused on environmental restoration and increased biodiversity. The final approval of the new Regional Hunting and Wildlife Plan will represent a fundamental turning point in this regard, with the necessary improvements to the adopted text, which our Association has duly submitted to the relevant bodies.
Not just containment interventions
Salvadori also reiterated a central theme for a proper approach to the matter, reiterating the need to recognize hunting as a useful tool for managing and conserving wildlife as a collective asset: "Hunting is legitimate for its environmental and management function, not just for the necessary interventions to contain species that impact agricultural production." For his part, Eugenio Giani expressed appreciation for the dialogue with Federcaccia Toscana-UCT, reiterating the importance of maintaining ongoing dialogue with the hunting community as well. "Tuscany is a land where hunting represents an important historical, cultural, and social component," Giani stated. I will ensure an approach that will ensure the continuity of the efforts undertaken to date. If our coalition is re-elected, and I am re-elected as President of the Region, the experience of the past five years will continue with concrete actions, starting with the approval of the recently adopted Regional Wildlife and Hunting Plan, with the utmost openness to making necessary improvements, based on the observations your Association has also submitted. We will continue to strengthen the principle of subsidiarity by enhancing the role and tasks assigned to the CAVs, including by seeking new resources to cover these functions. In this regard, I am committed to resubmitting the proposal to achieve a transfer of part of the national hunting license fee to the regions themselves, as the bodies responsible for implementing the relevant delegation.
Relationship between agriculture and hunting
The meeting also highlighted yesterday's meeting with the Vice President of the Tuscany Region, Stefania Saccardi, who also discussed wildlife management and the relationship between agriculture and hunting with the Association. "I believe it is essential to strengthen collaboration between the agricultural and hunting worlds," Saccardi stated. "Only through a common and shared vision can we build balanced management of wildlife and the landscape, which enhances the active role of hunters and farmers in protecting the environment. Over the past five years, we have worked together to achieve important goals: from the Regional Wildlife and Hunting Plan to a robust hunting calendar to counter potential appeals and ensure the smooth running of the hunting season. Now we must continue in the same direction for the next five years, without hesitation and with the same concreteness." Federcaccia Toscana-UCT thanks President Giani and Vice President Saccardi for their attention and willingness to engage in discussion, confirming the Association's desire to continue contributing constructively to the political and technical debate on regional wildlife and hunting issues.
