The problem of wildlife damage is severe and Arch Hunting, not only is aware of it, but has always been in solidarity and collaboration with farmers. However, the possibility of intervening in "self-defense", made available to agricultural entrepreneurs, has numerous and important distortions that need attention, monitoring and corrective measures. This is what the President Maffei in the two letters on the subject sent to the ATC and Councilor Mammi.
This is the text written to the Region: The ways in which self-defense is exercised, especially in some areas of the regional territory, show very high risk profiles with respect to the safety of the action itself. In fact, in the absence of a greater and more stringent regulation that allows those responsible to know the place and time of the self-defense action, there is a risk that it will overlap with the normal selection activity, for example. This risk is not trivial from the point of view of safety, since, in practice, the groups, which by now in a semi-professional manner offer this service to farmers, are obliged to provide details with respect to the position and the precise firing point. Arci Caccia therefore intends to draw the attention of the SV to the need for a careful assessment of the methods of carrying out self-defense interventions and on safety with respect to all the other users of the campaign, also taking into account the technologies and weapons used that significantly expand the possibility of shooting. We also underline that with the progressive loss of staff of the Provincial Police, the possibility of effective control of night activities, including self-defense implemented by farmers, is practically zero.
This instead is the text of the letter to the ATCs: With intellectual honesty and profound respect for the legitimate needs of the agricultural world, we waited for an appropriate period of application and we noted what was easily predictable:
- Self-defense is rarely exercised directly by the farmer, by his relatives or employees, but in the vast majority by third parties, who are now specializing and very often offer themselves to farmers with the main aim of gaining exclusive hunting opportunities.
- The hunters who have chosen to dedicate themselves to this activity rarely take part in the prevention activities which however continue to be carried out by the other hunters.
- No direct correlation has been established between those who implement self-defense and the methods of recognition and settlement of damages by the ATCs.
