La Emilia Romagna region shared a first version of the Hunting Calendar 2022/23. A text cut down by the opinion ISPRA, with significant limitations compared to last year, which seems to have found only the applause of Massimo Bulbi, Regional Councilor but above all Regional President of Federcaccia. Christian Maffei, National President of Arci Caccia and Regional President of Emilia Romagna sent this letter to the Regional Councilor Mammi asking a certain timetable, sheltered from appeals, but more in line with the expectations and requests of hunters.
With reference to the proposed regional hunting calendar circulated and in the process of definitive approval, we would like to underline the following: ARCICACCIA EMILIA-ROMAGNA shares the general approach of the calendar, to create the conditions to resist predictable appeals, carefully evaluate the opinion of ISPRA and adapting the tools that govern the hunt to the ever-increasing complexity of the problems in the field is fundamental. It is for those like us who want to have a serene hunting season and without forced interruptions, perhaps in the central periods of the season.
We also highlight that for the first time in the history of hunting policy, thanks to the national turtle dove plan, we were able to recover a species that last year had actually left the list of huntable species, a trend reversal that we must read positively, learning to manage the conservation plans of endangered species as a management tool also useful for hunting and not as an enemy. Instead, we note that some choices for limiting the withdrawal dates seem excessive to us and even committing ourselves we did not understand the reasons, not even by pursuing a line of rigor and prudence; and we are going to list them:
• the advance of the closing of the Mallard from 30/01 to 19/01 it seems not justifiable given the excellent state of health of the species certified by many parties
• the advance of the closing of the Cesena from 30/1 to 19/01 seems excessively prudent and could be re-evaluated in light of the sophisticated alchemy of overlapping decades
Therefore, noting a positive evaluation of the general layout of the calendar and regretted in particular for the closing of the hunt for lapwing and pochard, which we hope as a success for the turtledove will not become definitive and perennial and for this reason we will work, we ask, in the final approval, to want to modify, bringing the closing date to January 30th for the two situations that we have indicated that frankly appear to us to be excessively penalizing and not fully motivated (Source: Arch Hunting).
