Alarmist tones
The sending by the European Commission of a reasoned opinion to Italy for not having respected the Birds Directive and the Reach Regulation concerning the use of lead ammunition in wetlands has pushed ENPA to intervene with the usual alarmist tones to the point of exhaustion
Violations of European regulations
Here is what the National Animal Protection Agency wrote about it: "The new initiative from Brussels that makes Italy's referral to the Court of Justice of the European Union for violation of European rules on hunting and the use of substances harmful to human and animal health increasingly concrete. As is known, Italy has come under scrutiny by European justice for the possibility of hunting during periods of the year when it is not permitted and even in protected areas, in clear violation of the Birds Directive. Furthermore, the failure to comply with the European REACH regulation that prohibits the use of lead in wetlands is contested".
The Government's attitude
The agency then added: "The government has preferred to pursue the path of hunting consensus, sacrificing the interests of the community to please a small category that plunders the precious collective heritage of wild fauna, with the use of toxic substances and methods that are increasingly different not only from widespread culture but from national and community regulations. In this sense, it is unacceptable that, while 5,7 million Italians live in conditions of absolute poverty, the Government continues to expose the country to the risk of a European condemnation, which would cost dearly not so much to politics as to the Italian citizens themselves, the vast majority of whom are in favor of nature and against hunting practices. Those who are against hunting should pay for the illegality of hunting: the damage and the mockery".
