Il Vicentino Dog Club of the ENCI, the Territorial Hunting Area 1 Vicenza North and the section of Castelgomberto of the Italian Federation of Hunting organized two hunting trials on natural game CAC (Certificate of Aptitude for the Championship) and one aptitude test on quail. These are appointments related to Erminio Zilio Trophy and valid for the Vicentino Championship of the same ENCI, for the ENCI-Federcaccia Regional Championship and for the FIDASC Championship. It will begin on February 27th and 28th with the first test of hunting on CAC natural game. The day of Saturday 27 will be dedicated to the English breeds, while the one following the Italian and foreign continental, with the meeting scheduled in Cornedo Vicentino (province of Vicenza).
An anti-doping control will be possible and it is necessary, as for the other tests mentioned above, the rabies vaccination. The second real game hunting test will take place on the weekend of 5 6 and March: the venue is the same, but the Italian and foreign continental (Saturday 5) and the English races will participate in addition to the special Breton spaniel. The aptitude test on quails has been set for Sunday 8 May: the Italian continentals, the young Italian and foreign continentals, the Free Continental category, the young English and the Free English category will be involved.
In this case, the competition field is located in the locality Pizzegoro-Recoaro. In the tests on natural game, consent is very important: in dogs of English breeds it must always be carried out spontaneously, while in those of continental breeds spontaneity is highly desirable (the execution of the consent on command is tolerated in all the tests, with the judge who will evaluate the immediacy and the expression to attribute the final qualification). The quail test deserves an even more detailed study.
The valid game is represented by quail whose behavior, both on the ground and in flight, is suitable for evaluating the work of the pointing dog. The placing of quails on the testing ground is ordered and controlled by the judge, furthermore the birds must be distributed throughout the useful field. Regarding performance, English breeds are required to have a fast and sustained gait, with the search that must be well open on the sides of the right depth, as well as very orderly and such as to guarantee an effective exploration of the terrain. The animal must demonstrate the greatest possible initiative, but also greed and courage, always remaining able to respond to the calls of its conductor. Among other things, the dog must also show that he is correct at the whip and at the moment of the shot, which will always be performed by the handler.
