Following a massive campaign to collect signatures, conducted in eighteen states for about 250 animal-friendly associations, some representatives of the “End the Cage Age” initiative received a hearing at the Parliament of the EU, asking the institutions to legislate in the near future in order to ban the use of cages in livestock farms. The Northeast MEP reports this Marco Dreosto, which announces “I find it right guarantee and protect the welfare of every animal, including those raised for income purposes.
In this sense, the thousands of companies in the sector, already burdened by the pandemic crisis, must necessarily be supported to protect them from any potential economic disadvantage; it is therefore essential to issue rules that guarantee resources and rewards, so that individual realities can improve and evolve their own farming system, with the consequent advantage of the welfare of farmed animals ". Now the EU will have to have its say in this regard.
