Sightings of wild boars are now daily a Fabriano. In via Del Molino, a stone's throw from the hospital, in via XIII July, Piano district, near the Cortine cemetery and in via Dante, just to give a few examples, the residents see ungulates walking, in herd or one, on the sidewalk, mainly in search of food. Often, in fact, they stop in the ecological islands attracted to waste. The last case, a few days ago, at the Merloni Park, in the Campo Sportivo di Fabriano area, with two residents who were leaving home to do the shopping and found themselves two big wild ones who were about to cross the street.
For some time the Fabriano people have been asking for severe measures to stem the presence of wild boars in the inhabited center. Only in 2017, the year of the last survey, 1.407 of them were shot down despite an estimated presence of no more than 330 specimens. A number that makes you think. The mayor has asked the competent authorities on several occasions to start a census of wild boars. In a letter he sent to the Marche region has made three proposals: to limit the areas closed to hunting or regulated hunting of which Fabriano is surrounded by creating a strip of 500 meters from the city where both hunting and disturbance should be allowed to keep them away; to authorize farmers and owners to intervene in case of need in the first person even with traps; abolish the rule that prohibits selective hunting in Fabriano and in other mountain areas in the periods in which collective hunting is practiced.
Contrary to these theses Danilo Baldini, Lac delegate, Lega Abolizione Caccia Marche, waiting for a communication, for some time, by the mayor. «Two months ago - he declares - I sent an official email to the staff of the mayor proposing to organize a conference in Fabriano on the theme of wild boars and wolves, because they are two closely related topics. For our part we would have invited Professor Andrea Mazzatenta, university professor and expert in pheromones, psychology and behavior of wild animals. He would have explained and demonstrated with certain data - he underlines - how it is useless and counterproductive to limit the number of wild boars with hunting and would then have listed the alternatives and tools to keep wild animals away from the roads and from the cultivated land».
Lac also wanted to invite a wolf researcher and photographer, also expert in weapons and ballistics, to explain to the population how dangerous are the hunting weapons used in hunting boar, or carbines that have a range of over 3 kilometers. The Municipality of Fabriano, for its part, could have invited other figures and experts to support the opposite thesis, or to allow wild boar hunting in areas close to the outskirts of the city. "I would have expected a response from the Municipality, even negative - concludes Baldini - but nothing, they did not deign to answer me". While waiting to understand if maxi iron fences will come into operation that will have to capture the wild boars that approach the houses, these animals keep moving around the city and in the hamlets by frightening people who are, by chance, a few meters away or who have to suddenly brake while they are circulating (Source - Courier Adriatico).
