On September 10, 50 members of the European Parliament (MEPs) from seven different political groups have pledged their support for the restoration ofIntergroup "Biodiversity, Hunting, Rural Activities". Since its first establishment in 1985, the Intergroup serves as a platform between stakeholders within the European Parliament, enabling open discussions between decision makers, civil society and experts. At the "Dialogue on the future of the European countryside" event, organized by the European Federation for Hunting and Conservation (FACE) and the European Organization of Landowners (ELO), the fundamental role of rural actors and the socio-economic importance of activities rural was confirmed.
The former president of the Intergroup, Karl-Heinz Florenz, opened the event and welcomed MEPs, representatives of all major European hunting associations and landowners' organizations. He stressed the importance of continuing the work of the Intergroup, which historically it has made important contributions to the political agenda during previous legislatures. Torbjörn Larsson, president of FACE, said: “Europe faces many challenges regarding biodiversity, sustainable land use and wildlife management, as well as climate change. Hunters and rural actors are key players in implementing effective environmental policies.
