FACE (Federation of Associations for Hunting and Conservation of the European Union) has published a report that is released annually to announce the results relating to the Manifesto for Protection of Biodiversity. In this way everyone can know the true contribution of the European hunters as regards the conservation of nature.
The first edition of this report dates back to 2015 and examined 181 conservation projects in which the hunting world is involved. Furthermore, these are cases that have to do with the European Union strategy on biodiversity valid until 2020. In 23 of the 34 actions that were proposed, the hunters made an essential contribution to achieving the community strategy. In 2016 there was a lot of discussion about Birds Directive and Habitat Directive, consequently FACE has focused the report on this specific topic.
Last year the 43% of projects in which hunters from the European continent were involved (221 in total) had to do with Natura 2000 sites. Each member state must to conserve habitats in a satisfactory way and sites of European interest: as pointed out by the president of the Federation, Michl Ebner, European hunters are directly involved with funding, monitoring, restoration and conservation.
