Fauna: Como, a pelican detached from the migration group stops at the lake.
In the area between the lakeside gardens and the promenade of Villa Olmo in the tourist town of Como, pelicans are not frequent. Until 9 October 2013, when the unusual fact is immortalized by a photograph taken by Mr. C. Courts. Even ornithologists, according to the data in their possession, confirm him to be a passing individual. Pelicans are migratory birds. This specimen was likely headed south, to Greece or the Balkans, and stopped here to look for food after losing the rest of the group. Even fans of the area, including the passer-by photographer, confirm that this is a rare fact: «Usually the pelican specimens are found in the plains, here it is much rarer. Among other things, from what I see, it seems to me an adult specimen in excellent health ». Hence, able to travel the thousands of miles that migration requires.
