A long series of attacks
“Il Lupo is colonizing areas that are not traditionally its own, getting ever closer to inhabited areas and human activities. Drastic and urgent measures are needed to contain it”. This was stated by Ritano Baragli, vice president of Fedagripesca Confcooperative Toscana, after “the latest in a long series of wolf attacks in Tuscany, which occurred in recent days in Firenzuola”.
Farms in danger
“A farmer saw his flock decimated in a few days with 26 sheep killed by wolves. This is not an isolated incident, but a reality that is increasingly affecting Tuscan farms. Until a few years ago – underlines the vice president of Fedagripesca Toscana – it was rare to spot the wolf, while today we find it along the roads, in the plains and in non-wooded areas, creating an out-of-control situation. When a predator expands without control and alters the fragile balance between man, fauna and territory, a problem is created that can become irreparable. The wolf is colonizing spaces that did not historically belong to it, with serious consequences for farmers and local ecosystems. An environmental disaster is not just a landslide or a flood”.
Territory security
Therefore the appeal to local and national institutions. "It is essential - asks Baragli - to recognize the seriousness of the phenomenon and intervene with concrete measures to protect breeders, our livestock heritage and the safety of the territory. We are ready to collaborate to find effective and sustainable solutions".
