We are very concerned about the situation regarding the renewal of hunting licenses, given that this year, due to the concomitance of the last expiry of those that lasted six years with the first expiry of the new ones that expire five years after issuance, we effectively have double the number of licenses to renew compared to normal years. In this understandable increase in workload, with consequent processing delays, delays in the release of the same must also be accepted. What cannot be accepted, however, is that when faced with a site that says it is possible to call at certain hours to obtain information on the status of the renewal, practically no one ever answers this number.
The complaints we receive in our offices from our members essentially concern not knowing where the case is at, whether there is any lack of documentation or some unknown impediment. We have brought this situation to the attention of the responsible bodies, who have proven to be extremely attentive, and have received assurances that everything possible will be done to overcome these difficulties and with a commitment to release within ninety days from the date of arrival at the Police Headquarters. However, it is clear that whoever is sending the documentation now will almost certainly not have the documents for the opening on September 15th. We have asked that special attention be paid to the licenses of new hunters, who have had to wait to be able to take the exams in longer periods of time and then access to the ranges and other things which have lengthened the time it takes to send the relevant requests.
The course on biosecurity relating to wild boar and places affected by ASF, held in the Teatro Comunale of Erbusco kindly granted last Thursday, was a success due to the quantity and quality of participation; three hundred enthusiasts and hunters who listened in silence and also asked the speaker some questions. A speaker, Dr. Mario Chiari, Deputy National Commissioner for the PSA, who with slide and confident attitude was able to make a subject that is not simple simple, capturing everyone's attention and active participation, despite the decidedly hot climate. And the fact that the presentation was appreciated was evident in the words of many who, upon leaving, complimented the initiative as a whole which added knowledge on the role of the hunter in this phase and in the active responsibility of them in all procedures of fighting ASF, a source of serious concern for the entire agricultural sector.
We have already sent, together with thanks, a new request to ATS Brescia for a new meeting requested by other interested parties who were unable to find a place in this first course. The Lombardy Region, perhaps also following the letter of protest from the regional table of hunting associations, met with the regional managers of the same associations for a preventive evaluation of the draft resolution it intends to adopt regarding rings for live decoys. It is called rings because this is the intention, rather than the clamps initially envisaged, to replace the old, rather obsolete aluminum rings, and the very idea of replacement raises serious doubts for us. In fact, anyone who has caged birds knows perfectly well how dangerous cutting rings from the leg can be, especially if the leg is not perfectly smooth due to the age of the decoy; if we are talking about animal welfare, we seriously invite you to think about just affixing the new mark on the other leg without the obligation to remove the previous ring, if anything simply communicating the number of the ring retained. For the rest, the orientation towards maintaining, therefore without replacing, all the previous steel and duralumin markings seems to prevail, which are also considered suitable for affixing to new pulleys. Of course, from the adoption of a resolution to the actual replacement of the signs, we do not delude ourselves into thinking that it will be a walk in the park; we were perplexed and critical before, we are a little more reassured that something is finally starting to move even if, with healthy realism, we think that everything will only come to fruition with the next hunting year (Federcaccia Brescia – Cacciapensieri).
