Requests for clarification
The meetings that the Provincial President of Federcaccia continues Giacomo Lanzini holds on the territory with the Presidents to hear the reasons, know the problems and expectations of the members. The meeting in Nozza di Vestone, coordinated by the provincial councilor Roberto Betta, saw an active and attentive participation of all the Presidents of the group and the issues addressed in the evening were many. The major requests for clarification from the base, since our province has a great tradition of hunting migratory birds, were still on the issue of rings and on the possibility of operating the replacement of the aluminum ones by the Lombardy Region.
Feasibility and simplicity
How this will happen is still to be defined since the Lombardy Region has not yet precisely defined the path that must be implemented to comply with this legislative provision. In fact, the resolution relating to the technical requirements and application methods that are intended to be adopted and on which the hunting associations have sent a wealth of documentation and operational proposals in the name of feasibility but also of possible simplicity, has still to be approved. Surely the whole issue will now see the light of day operationally in the first months of 2025, and therefore for the current year we will return to the ambushes with the current ring decoys. Another very sensitive issue is that of the passes, which at the moment have an operational ban on hunting, there are neither maps that highlight the ban nor signs on the territory that could help in identifying the limits to hunting.
Bears and wolves
The presence of bears and wolves, certainly no longer sporadic, is also starting to cause concern, as they are colonizing other territories from nearby Trentino and the upper Valsabbia is a popular destination. And the question that follows always concerns who is in charge of the management of these large carnivores, given that the law assigns the planning and management of the territories for wildlife purposes to the Alpine Districts, but in fact the various European projects on wolves and bears are completely autonomous. And therefore without any forecast and without any control other than letting Nature do its thing. These days, meetings of various kinds, both technical and political, are taking place regarding the issue of African Swine Fever, which is increasingly having a significant impact on the Lombardy region, with dangerous approaches to the bulk of the pig sector in Cremona, Mantua and Brescia, with great fear for the possible economic and employment repercussions.
Respect for the hunting world
The world of hunting, and Federcaccia at the forefront, is active in the territory to contain this disease through the slaughter of wild boars, aware however that too much time has passed without the institutions in charge understanding the extent and gravity of the issue, and now it seems much, too late. Surely from the first of October, when it will also be possible to activate the hunts, we will be able to have greater results in the samplings, at least in the territories where they will be possible, certainly convinced that our intervention is absolutely indispensable. A small note: the hunters who are clearly indispensable in this phase do not exist only in alternating phases; and if they are important for the control of game, wild boars, coypu, pigeons, crows, starlings, they must be considered an essential part of society also in the remaining time in which they exercise their passion in compliance with the rules. Without claiming the noble status recognized to us in the middle of Europe, but at least with the respect due to all citizens who use their free time in the exercise of the passion that distinguishes us (Federcaccia Brescia – Cacciapensieri).
