Agricultural Fair
A Coldiretti conference was held in Montichiari, as part of the agricultural fair, with important attendees, from the President of the Lombardy Region Fontana, to the regional agriculture councillor Beduschi, to the Commissioner for PSA Filippini, to the Vice President of the Council Tajani (in connection). The National President of Coldiretti Prandini highlighted the serious emergencies in the agricultural sector, from African Swine Fever to Blue Tongue and Avian Flu, thus denouncing a livestock industry that is in fact under attack. With obviously disastrous effects: already 100 thousand pigs, 40 thousand sheep and 180 thousand turkeys have been slaughtered in recent months.
A first compensation
And for these culls and for this emergency, which has also led to a decrease in the overall prices of the animals, President Prandini has requested an initial compensation of 50 million euros for the emergency phase alone. Commissioner Filippini has illustrated some measures to contain and contain the PSA with highway barriers and with a massive depopulation of the wild boar population through culling. In the meantime, we reiterate our total sharing of the concerns of the entire agricultural sector, we ask ourselves some questions and express some considerations. If it is true that the main vector of the PSA is the wild boar, why until recently were the cull plans for this species proposed by the management bodies always approved at a lower possible number? If it is true that the main vector of the Blue Tongue are wild ungulates, with deer in the lead, is it not possible to explain the leaps of joy because they managed to block the cull of 600 deer in Abruzzo, a plan proposed by the Park Authority and not by the hunters?
The carriers of avian flu
It is not with ideology and Disney references to "Bambi" that one can think of protecting and managing the environment, a task that hunters are called upon by Institutions and Public Administration, engaging in tasks and roles that respond to a common interest of all citizens. If it is true that the main vectors of Avian Flu are birds, how would one know about its presence without the active surveillance of hunters and monitoring of killed aquatic birds? Public opinion should be made to understand that the hunter himself, who in these phases is called upon to act more as a guardian of nature and as an operator of control activities through the collection of game, is increasingly indispensable to society to obtain part of a health response to these issues (source: FIDC Brescia - Cacciapensieri).
