For the first time in a national convention of Italian ornithologists, an oral communication was presented by a Hunting Association thanks to the work of the Migratory Birdlife Office of the FIdC.
The occasion was the XVI Italian Convention of Ornithology organized by ASOER held in Milano Marittima from 21 to 25 September in which the Migratory Birdlife Office of the Italian Hunting Federation and ACMA were present with their own contributions.
The data presented at Symposium during the speech dedicated to "The hunting of Anatidae in Italy", together with those contained in three posters prepared for the occasion (concerning the collection of lapwings, the results of the aquatic censuses in the Canneviè Oasis - Porticino and the presence of the Porciglione in two Tuscan wetlands in correlation with meteorological data), have been positively evaluated by the scientific world, which has appreciated the commitment to research by hunters and the exposure of data on sampling as an important source of information for knowledge of the demographics of the species being hunted.
In addition to the presentation of the research, the presence of the avifauna office was decisive for dialoguing with ornithologists on the issues of hunting wildlife management; we have in fact understood that many professionals in this field are not prejudiced against the hunt, but that they have never directly confronted the hunting world on a technical and scientific level.
This appreciation confirms that we are on the right path. The applied research carried out in first person by the hunting world can only lead to a constructive confrontation with all those who are interested in the management of avifauna with evident positive implications for the defense of the Italian hunting traditions of migratory hunting.
We wish to thank all the surveyors who have collaborated in the FIDC and ACMA projects over the years, all the managers of the Regions and Provinces who provided the data and the Federcaccia Management who made this historic turning point possible.
