Hunting: not just wild boar. With this password Federcaccia Umbra wrote a letter to the regional councilor Fernanda Cecchini, asking for "a discussion table with all the interested parties", that is to say the institutionally recognized hunting associations, aimed at signing a "memorandum of understanding defining principles and guidelines of hunting policy ", on the basis of which to confirm or modify current regional laws or regulations.
The controversy over the hunting calendar has been set aside, and after a first consultation - last 11 October - focused on the regional regulation for boar hunting, Federcaccia returns to ask to talk about all the forms of hunting activity, with particular attention to some key points.
First of all, it is necessary to decide what to do to recover a sedentary fauna heritage which, for years, has been in a highly critical situation. To this end, the Regional Wildlife Plan, approved five years ago but never put into practice, provides for valid measures that should be implemented as soon as possible.
Another chapter concerns migratory hunting and exceptions. For wild game it is necessary to put in place measures for the environmental improvement, while the topic “hunting in derogation”, according to Federcaccia, must be faced with the legislative and scientific parameters, abandoning useless hysteria in one sense or another. The latter, as evidenced by the appeals suffered by the hunting calendars of some regions and the recent threat of further European sanctions, do not lead to anything good.
The comparison table, then, should be able to draw up the criteria for the next hunting calendar, which is in line with national and EU directives. Returning to the theme of boar hunting, Federcaccia Umbra considers the regional regulation valid, which requires - more than changes - its full application. In particular, it is necessary to regulate as soon as possible the hunting of wild boar in single form, providing it with precise ethical-hunting contents, without giving space to further forms of wild boar sampling which should necessarily take away more space from different hunts.
For which, on the contrary, it is necessary to recover territory, through precise regional rules that are not however a "cage" for hunters, but which allow exceptions to address the various particular situations within the regional territory. At the moment, moreover, only the Atc Pg 1 has prepared the mandatory management plans for the districts, which are drafted by the various territorial hunting areas.
Likewise again the approval of a new regulation for wildlife damage is urgently needed. In this sense, a regulation proposal signed by all the Umbrian hunting associations is already to the attention of the commissioner.
Finally, the discussion table hoped for by Federcaccia should also review regional law number 14 of 1994 and the regional regulation number 6, which establishes the rules for the management of the Atc.
