A few days ago one of the many episodes of "Sunday In" on Rai Uno. One of the guests was the model and showgirl Rocio Morales who was interviewed and concluded her speech with a typically Spanish phrase: "Be happy and eat partridges". This is a very widespread wish in the Iberian Peninsula, but obviously the presenter Mara Venier he did not know and his reaction was exaggerated. In fact, Venier appeared displaced and asked what the partridges had to do with them, animals that, according to her, they cannot be eaten.
John Ciccarese, Chairman of the Provincial Federcaccia of Lecce, took the ball and wrote a letter to the program editor for the details of the case. Here is what he wrote: "Dear Mrs. Venier: PARTRIDGES EAT. I respect, admire and follow her for many years, but partridges are eaten. Except that in the country of Rocio Morales, there is not that radical and exasperated false environmentalism which, by polluting the true meaning of environment and protection, comes to forbid Carlo Cracco to cook the pigeon or the Italians to eat game.
It is all a wrong approach. Partridges are eaten like chickens are eaten, pheasants are eaten like pigeons, hares like rabbits. And what about the jugged thrushes or duck with orange or venison or wild boar ribs. My dear Mrs. Venier, let us free ourselves once and for all from the influences of false environmentalism and we unreservedly embrace the culture and tradition of Italian cuisine, which also includes game meat. The best. Greetings from one of his greatest admirers of all time ”.
