During 2015, the Lombard section of the Italian Federation of Hunting has decided to increase the price of the card by a few euros. The choice was useful in obtaining the money necessary to organize a series of interesting hunting activities, as well as scientific research projects that deserve to be explored. As reported in an official statement from the same association, one of these researches is the "Cesena Project", developed with the University of Milan e Diego Rubolini, professor of the Department of Biosciences.
The objective of the study is to better understand the dynamics of the pre-nuptial migration of Cesena, using satellite telemetry. The information collected will be used to support the request for closure of the hunting sampling on January 31st. The project lasts several years and, as pointed out by Federcaccia Lombardia, will try to fill an important gap on the subject.
It will be necessary to carefully consider how it is affected the phenology of this migration from the geographic origin of the birds, without forgetting the ecological and meteorological conditions. The project also aims to identify those that are the wintering and reproduction areas of the cesene. The tools to be used will be miniaturized devices for individual tracking of the latest generation: the position of the animals will be optimally defined through GPS technology. Data collection will begin next December, taking advantage of thirty GPS positions, to be increased in the following months.
