The study's goal is to better understand the dynamics of the fieldfare's pre-nuptial migration, using satellite telemetry . The information collected will support the request to end hunting by January 31st. The project will last several years and, as Federcaccia Lombardia emphasizes, will attempt to fill a significant gap in knowledge on the topic.
It will be necessary to carefully evaluate how the phenology of this migration is influenced by the birds' geographic origin, not to mention ecological and meteorological conditions. The project also aims to identify the wintering and breeding areas of fieldfares . The instruments used will be state-of-the-art miniaturized devices for individual tracking: the birds' positions will be optimally defined using GPS technology. Data collection will begin next December , using thirty GPS positions, with more to be added in the following months.
