Traditional loading
We report what Massimo Buconi, national president of Federcaccia, explained in a video regarding the age-old issue of lead ammunition: “While in Italy the competent ministries still lack the expected and necessary identification of the “wetlands” for the correct application of the law that prohibits the use of traditionally loaded ammunition, Europe is relaunching with a project to completely ban lead in both hunting and fishing”.
Forced interpretations
“On both fronts Federcaccia has been, is and will be at the forefront to urge the Institutions to complete the expected process to protect the regular and peaceful performance of hunting activities by hunters and even more so against renewed forced and instrumental interpretations of “dangers” that have been scientifically refuted on several occasions”.
Fishing is also involved
The European Commission has presented an official proposal that aims to ban the use of lead ammunition in all areas (hunting and sport shooting) and in all environments, not only in wetlands. The same ban will also be applied to fishing sinkers. All this in light of the dossier of the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) which already in 2023 had highlighted the "unacceptable risk for the environment and human health", now leading the Commission to propose the ban.
