The provincial section of Pordenone of Italian Federation of Hunting has initiated a scientific research rather important through participation in the project of the Migratory Birdlife Office. The association has in fact acquired a satellite transmitter to be applied to a woodcock that will be captured in the territory of the Friulian municipality during the migration of the species. Everything will take place in full compliance with the law and animal welfare.
As is known, this bird is found in our country in the period between October and March and it feeds mainly on earthworms and larvae. The woodcock with the radio transmitter will be called "Concordia" and, once released, it will allow to understand the exact movements in real time, providing scientific data of great importance to deepen its biology, currently little known.
As underlined by Federcaccia Pordenone, moreover, the continues climate changes they are influencing the migration of many species. The project is aimed at safeguarding the woodcock and the first results are already awaited in order to draw up a provisional balance sheet.
