The month of January traditionally closes an important part of the hunting season in our province. Wandering hunting is only allowed along the banks of rivers, lakes and flooded stubble, but continues until the end of the year. hunting from fixed stalking and from temporary stalking; new this year the extension of the sampling until the end of January for hunting wild boar in hunt, even if in some alpine areas a selection hunt carried out without a minimum of rules has somewhat disrupted the consistencies of wild boar making this extension less attractive. But the month of January is also a fundamental month, together with the second half of December, for the management of an important species like the hare as it is the period in which catches are normally carried out in the ZRC and ZRA.
Unfortunately, the presence of the cursed virus epidemic has imposed many limitations on the 2020/2021 hunting season and by limiting these management aspects there was the risk that a negative mortgage also on the next season. The ATC of Brescia did well, in full harmony with all lovers of hare hunting in the province of Brescia, not to reopen the sampling at the beginning of December, when, calendar in hand, it would have been possible to carry out a few more days of hunting too. with the hounds. The maturity of the hounds combined with a culture of good management of the top management of the ATC has instead made sure that the garments remaining in the territory, together with those brought in from abroad thanks to the purchases made by the ATC and the professionalism of the importer, should constitute a good starting population on which to plan the next withdrawals.
Certainly the largest part will be made by the hares remaining in the area due to the month of forced closure in November: animals accustomed to the environment, to the ways of communication, to the unfortunately exaggerated presence of harmful, should give rise to a birth rate of interesting subjects. Catches are obviously suspended due to the impossibility of moving and the risk of contagion being the parades moments of real gathering; however, even in this case, the populations of hares should be strengthened in the ZRCs and ZRAs that if respected by all and managed in the best way, they will be able to represent both the qualitative leap of the areas themselves and perhaps themselves be a source of irradiation of animals in the surrounding territories.
Due to the avian flu epidemic, just so that we do not miss anything, the restocking of pheasants and partridges are suspended which, to be honest, are carried out in the month of February. It is obvious, however, that in the face of this uncertainty it will be difficult to find breeders who have selected suitable animals for these fundamental actions of hunting management. It is to be hoped that in spring the municipal sections that have always organized dog trials for hunters will resume action on the territory; these tests as well as being much loved and having a large following are certainly a moment of cultural growth for fans. The canine in Brescia, both competitive and pure passion, has always been a flagship and if on the one hand our athletes and especially their auxiliaries stand out in all tests, including international ones, it is also known that the quality of the dogs of Brescia hunters is very high.
In this difficult moment, the importance of the Restocking and Capture Zones and the Red Zones, the ZRAs, must become a common heritage. Understanding its importance in depth means guaranteeing a quality future for the sedentary hunters of our province. More and more scientific studies show the importance of these areas for the irradiation of real and quality wild game. The hunting activity must evolve in this sense, aiming at quality and not quantity because a real game guarantees an exciting hunting day and puts the hunter dog combination in difficulty in what is the true expression of hunting, the challenge between man and nature.
Those who do not have our passion can hardly understand our world which, however, can only sustain itself and continue in full compliance with the laws and rules of sound and correct management. The temporary difficulties of managing the territory should worry the hunting associations more and the appeal is to tighten in collaboration with Atc and Alpine Districts by too many hunters still seen as distant entities: the ATCs and the districts we are hunters and the future for a real, quality hunting depends on the commitment, whether small or large.
