It's a red alert for the Lombardy hunting community ! The review of the Impact Assessment for the Wildlife Hunting Plan , prepared by the Lombardy Region's Hunting Office, has clearly clarified the objective of those drafting the Impact Assessment : to ban hunting in Lombardy. Vast areas have been identified around mountain passes where hunting permits should not be renewed, and a complete ban on lead shot in shotshells has been imposed in all Alpine regions and in all areas identified along rivers and valleys.
Elimination of hides along all identified migration routes, and a dramatic increase, beyond legal limits, of oases where hunting is prohibited. Duck shelters and hides will need to be reclaimed, along with dozens of other similar amenities. We have examined in depth many of the studies cited to support the claims made by the Impact Assessment: almost all were not conducted in Italy , and the results have been used, in a highly questionable manner, to prove absurd claims, especially regarding lead poisoning. What's the point of citing studies conducted at British, Norwegian, and American military ranges? Are they comparable to those conducted in Lombardy?

We quote the conclusion of a study conducted in Italy on 196 starlings shot while hunting . “Given the results of previous studies, the quantity and level of fragmentation suggest that the risk of lead poisoning for humans and birds of prey consuming the meat of songbirds killed with traditional ammunition cannot be excluded.” The “cannot be excluded” does not seem to us to be scientific proof ( FIDC Brescia-Cacciapensieri ).
