The new hunting season
Clarity is needed on times, species and methods for the next hunting season. News relating to an alleged postponement of the start of the hunting season in Calabria as well as other provisions relating to excluded species and prohibitions. Since the carrying out of the hunting season has been decided and codified by the regional hunting calendar and this still needs to be approved, we wonder on what basis the news circulated and the "satisfaction" expressed by the Calabrian environmentalist associations for this alleged decision of the Region are based.
The general opening date
The draft hunting calendar waiting to be approved by the Council which has been examined and approved several times by the regional wildlife hunting council, does not include anything that is now declared as "prohibited", starting from the general opening date of the season, set as as indicated in the national framework law 157/92 to the third Sunday of September, or for 2024 to the 15th of September, and starting from 1st September for the pre-opening days.
The VINCA requirements
At this point, for necessary and due clarity for all citizens and not just for citizen hunters, Federcaccia Calabria asks the Region to approve the regional hunting calendar as soon as possible. As regards the provisions linked to VINCA, we return to asking for its correction in the points not justified by objective technical-scientific reasons. In any case, we would like to remind you that even if it remains so, the provisions of the VINCA apply only in the SPA and SAC areas, and certainly not to the entire Calabrian territory subject to scheduled hunting. Saying that hunting in Calabria opens on October 2nd does not correspond to reality in any case and has the sole purpose of generating confusion and righteous indignation in the hunting world (source: FIDC).
