For many, hunters first, this period of emergency was an opportunity to make a profound commitment to give one's own contribution, each according to his ability and ability, to the solution of the many problems, even dramatic ones, that were posed every day. For someone on the other hand - and sorry that just Legambiente both among these - the emergency was seized as an opportunity to send the company its promotional messages, exploiting the emotionality of the moment. Thus, in Emilia Romagna, following the approval of the hunting calendar, he finds nothing better than to indicate hunting as a danger to public health. In this period, you know, we are all a bit virologists, but we would be curious to know from Environmental associations why only hunting risks infecting others and not all other motor and sports activities, including those normally promoted and organized by them.
If the evaluation of Legambiente on the "No need for hunting" then the association should for consistency apply the same concept to all the motor activities allowed by the DPCM of May 4th, and consequently also to its own work, which in many cases can be considered completely unnecessary. Moving on from opinions to facts, Legambiente has lost an excellent opportunity to keep quiet. Hunting is an activity that takes place outdoors, for which it is possible to implement, in all its forms, every precaution of social distancing and personal protection, as required by the provisions for the containment of the contagion from Covid 19. This applies to selection hunting - a single form of sampling by definition - as well as to “traditional” hunting, which will open according to the hunting calendar approved by the Emilia Romagna Region on 1st September.
Regarding the hunted wild boar hunt, the opinion of Legambiente that this type of hunting is a source of contagion, is in fact mere fantasy. In this regard, in fact Emilia Romagna hunting federation itself, is working on a "Security Protocol" to avoid forms of contact and gatherings of any kind to protect the participants in the hunt and all citizens. If the general provisions to avoid gatherings continue, there will also be precise indications for the teams and hunters, who, as they are used to doing, they will respect the rules very carefully.
On the species being hunted, Legambiente evidently does not know the matter or, more easily, pretends to ignore it: the SPEC classification referred to by you, in addition to having no official value - which on the contrary have the IUCN assessments made their own by the European Commission - has no relation to the possibility of hunt certain species. In fact, ISPRA itself, which is certainly not a hunting association, considers numerous species of birds now classified as SPEC1, SPEC2, SPEC3, to be hunted. We advise Legambiente a bit of in-depth analysis before launching into blatantly unsubstantiated statements.
Even more disconcerting is the glaring error on the definition of “ascertained abatement”: contrary to what Legambiente stated, this term was deemed correct by the Constitutional Court, which with sentence no. 40 of the year 2020, relating to the Law of the Liguria Region, established the correctness of the definition "Proven killing". In conclusion, we can only send the sender the request to review the measures correctly issued by the Emilia Romagna region. Accompanying it with the invitation to push less on the fear pedal and focus on concrete things.
