The recent vote
The vote last February 27th in the European Parliament puts a point in favor of the possibility of reconstituting and conserving habitats useful for wildlife, in particular agricultural ones, where the decline of many species is most alarming. Even the coastal plains, river mouths, beaches and many waterways in almost all regions of Italy have suffered degradation caused by overbuilding, illegal construction and lack of respect for natural habitats. It won't be easy to reach the objectives that this law sets itself, but the provision of National Recovery Plans represents an element to be considered positively, which makes EU Member States responsible and offers the possibility of dialogue between all stakeholders and institutions. Legislative framework aside - the law still has to go through a passage before becoming effective - we would like to underline that even in its absence the hunting world has been carrying on its spirit since well before there was any talk of codifying it.
Wet areas
Italian hunters, for example, have been creating concrete examples of environmental restoration and conservation for years: just think of the minimum estimate of 27.000 hectares of managed and/or restored wetlands, or the reconstitution of mountain meadow areas thanks to the interventions of the Alpine Districts, or the financing with hunters' money deriving from ATC registration fees or directly from AFV dealers, for non-returnable crops, hedges, groves and watering points for fauna. Italian Hunting Federation hopes that the Italian Plan for the Restoration of Nature is created at a central level within the competent Ministries and involves the hunting world for a synergistic action towards feasible projects and above all that it does not represent yet another attempt to speciously coincide " restoration" with the absolute prohibition to carry out any operation that is not an absolute - and useless - empty protection from concrete management actions.
Habitat restoration
Pursuing this objective, we hope for ad hoc funding, prepared and managed by the competent Ministries in collaboration with the Regions. We certainly don't want to rely on CAP funds, which, as can be seen, are difficult to direct towards initiatives in favor of natural habitats. In the same way, we suggest and hope that actions will be directed towards the restoration of agricultural habitats useful for small game and migrants linked to these environments, which is the real emergency today, identifying synergistic operations with the agricultural world that do not harm the different interests. Federcaccia is also there on this occasion, with its entire territorial structure at every level, and with its Studies and Research Office, so that this opportunity to recreate environments suitable for hosting both sedentary and migratory wild populations is not wasted (source: FIDC ).
