Still animal rights protests for the reopening of the selection hunt for roe deer decided by the Liguria Region to regulate the excessive presence of ungulates making it compatible with the resources offered by the territory and in a balance that does not compete with other wild species or pose a risk to human activities. Enpa, with the usual tragedy tones, he speaks of "bloodbath" and "massacre", complaining about the number of kills expected and the risks, according to them, for hikers and lovers of cycling. The animal rights association does not know either it pretends to ignore that the number of wild animals to be taken is fixed on the basis of extremely prudent calculations by Ispra technicians and the more than 1200 animals foreseen are therefore a minimum percentage of the total number of roe deer present in the area.
A territory that cannot afford, for various reasons, to bear the pressure it exerts on natural tree species, on many other animal species and on agricultural crops, a source of damage that is concrete and very heavy, certainly not "presumed" as declared by Enpa. The hunting world is happy to contribute with its action to protect the work and the income of thousands of farming families and save expenses for the whole community. As for the fears that the association would like to instill in citizens about risks and dangers to public health, it should be remembered that the selection hunt is practiced in single, from a fixed position, on large lawns and open spaces, after careful observations with binoculars to "choose" the game to be taken and firing a single shot with a rifle aiming through precision optics. All this, moreover, limited to just over an hour at sunrise and sunset.
All the premises are in place and are being applied all the necessary care and attention to really minimize the possibility of risks for any hikers and cyclists, who are used to frequent other areas than those concerned, as well as to people engaged in other outdoor activities. Full support for the Liguria Region, therefore, which instead of letting itself be drawn into sterile and useless polemics has decided to apply a method of wildlife management recognized as valid and sustainable by technicians and scientists from all over the world as it does not exist, with all due respect to the animal rights activists, “ecological” solutions that are valid, if not in their fantasies.
