The President of Federcaccia Sicily, Giuseppe La Russa, with the whole Regional Council, is pleased to communicate to Sicilian hunters that, after the Projects Wild Rabbit, Quail and Italic Hare, has turned his attention to the woodcock. The Regional Council had approved the purchase of some GPS-GSM transmitters to be placed on as many woodcocks to be captured in Sicily. Once the capture and positioning operations of the devices have been completed in several provinces, we inform you that last Saturday evening this first phase of the Woodcock project and that a total of 11 transmitters were positioned in the Sicilian territory.
The research will allow you to to know the movements of individuals during the wintering period and during migration and reproduction. We thank, therefore, once again the friend Alessandro Tedeschi of Amici di Scolopax for everything he has done in Sicily and we like to remember that Alessandro himself has been collaborating with Federcaccia for 10 years on this exceptional project. Our thanks also goes to our friend Dr. Michael Sorrenti of the National Studies and Research Office of Federcaccia for all the work and attention it pays to scientific research.
We believe that research is also essential for hunting. In the last Regional Council we unanimously approved the creation in Sicily of a Regional Study Center, linked to the national one, to continue working in this sense also on other wild species (Source: Hunting Federation).
