The final event of the Marozzo water pumping plant Ecomuseum took place LIFE PERDIX project – focused on the reintroduction of the Italian partridge in the Mezzano Valley. The project, co-financed by ENCI and led by ISPRA, was launched in 2019 with the aim of recovering the Italian partridge (Perdix perdix Italica), a previously extinct native sedentary species, for a reintroduction activity in the “Valli del Mezzano” Special Protection Area.
An important piece
During yesterday's conference, which saw the participation and speeches of representatives of the scientific community of the Italian and European entities that participated in the project, I had the opportunity to illustrate how ENCI's contribution to this LIFE represents an important piece in the context of the actions necessary to qualify modern dog breeding as an opportunity and resource for the territory.
Significant Contributions
During the project activities, monitoring with canine units with pointing dogs, coordinated by the territorial canine group, represented a significant contribution to the collection of data on the presence of the species. The reintroduction of the Italian partridge in the Mezzano Valleys also represents, for ENCI, a particularly strong signal, sealing a historical bond of canine breeding with this area, a panorama of selective checks that have allowed, over the years, to enhance in an exemplary manner the livestock heritage represented by pointing breeds. The stakeholders also illustrated the good management practices of the species and, on this occasion, ENCI was present with canine units for nature conservation.
