The bill to establish fines for whom disturbs hunters in the Veneto region aroused the reaction of the LAV (Anti-Vivisection League). The animal rights association contacted the governor of the region, Luca Zaia, to block the provision, currently in the approval phase and which it envisages penalties up to 3600 euros. The promoter of the law, the regional councilor Sergio Berlato, immediately responded to the League.
The appeal and the protest were called singular, especially because the disturbance is considered a citizen's right, while instead we are talking about a legitimate and regulated activity. Berlato's project aims to guarantee true rights, that is, those of honest citizens who respect the rules, the hunters in fact. The fines are used to punish those who rage aggressively against hunters and fishermen.
Among other things, those who practice these activities regularly pay concession fees which then benefit the entire community. The councilor and president of the III Standing Committee finally underlined that in a civilized country like Italy there should be no room for forms of fundamentalism, including the animal rights one"Extremists who think they can impose their personal beliefs by disturbing, intimidating and sometimes attacking honest citizens with perfectly clean criminal records, such as hunters, cannot go unpunished.".
