The speech on Sky Tg 24
The risk associated with the first confirmed case of Swine fever in Emilia Romagna: Giovanna Parmigiani, member of the Confagricoltura Council, as well as owner of a pig farm, talks about it to Sky tg24. “This infection has been circulating in Italy since January 2022 and unfortunately we have witnessed its rapid spread” says Parmigiani, who specifies that there is an objective risk for the entire sector. The declaration of a "red zone" immediately entails greater and more rigorous controls for the farmers involved.
Biosafety measures
Parmigiani underlined how biosecurity measures are being intensified on farms. The situation - as reiterated by the representative of Confagricoltura - however remains critical and requires the immediate implementation of the culling plan drawn up by the Extraordinary Commissioner for African Swine Fever, Vincenzo Caputo, a plan which provides for the culling of approximately 2023 animals in the period 2025 - 700.000 .
The main vehicles of infection
These are wild animals, the main vehicles of infection, whose presence is estimated by ISPRA at around 1.500.000 heads. “It is important – concludes Parmigiani – that the plan is implemented as quickly as possible” (source: Confagricoltura).
