La Bows is a magnificent Italian industrial company that has been producing cartridges of all kinds for 140 years, always with constant quality and an affordable price: the entry into the ammunition market for long rifled weapon with sporting purposes dates back to ten years ago, but the military production of the specific sector has a broad and substantial history, so the experience to make a good impression here is an established reality too. Among the various ammunition offered to customers, we focused on the .308 Win. choosing, among the various assembled bullets, the one that seems most suitable for hunting and, at the same time, for shooting range. The reduced length of the cartridge case is 51 mm, on the one hand it brakes in pushed loads with heavy bullets, on the other hand it peremptly cultivates that intrinsic precision, emblem of this ammunition. The type of complex is then very suitable for semi-automatic weapons where it allows slightly shorter actions than required by the most famous competitor, the .30-06 Sprg. which has the ease of mounting heavy bullets, those from 180 to 220 grs, which seem extremely appreciated by the majority of wild boarers, withstanding heavy loads without going too soon overpressure.
The dispute is easy to trigger, but we abstain from it, proposing only to examine and evaluate the concept of the relationship between the weight of the ball and its speed with the consequent hydrodynamic shock even before the damaging power, the tendency of the bullet to pass unscathed into the branch. without appreciable deviations and above all without fragmentation. It is on this question that for some time the thought that upsets established convictions has risen to the fore: it seems that pointed bullets prove to be more suitable for this task than those with a rounded nose. We would like to be there to see a slow-motion movie to get more precise ideas: of course if you think locally at the angle of impact against the fateful branch of an RN compared to that of a SP with the consequent discharge of forces, one would scratch the pear to decide which is the right solution.

At this point we open the beautiful greenish box where the plastic hive that contains the cartridges is located, saving the integrity of the discreetly tapered and uncovered lead. The brass of the shells appears of quality and without dents in the workmanship, precise and constant sinking of the trigger, without burrs the whole grip groove for the extractor, clear the shoulder angle and well trimmed the collar where the right one crimp stably stops the ball. We have experimented with this ammunition on a combination weapon cartridge of sound technical and constructive principles combined with interesting prices: the Baikal tilting door is almost the prototype of the function at minimum cost, taking into account that the limitation of refined aesthetic solutions is contrasted with a excellent execution as regards metallurgy, with high-strength steels, thermochemical treatments of primary quality, very precise processing. Those who produce military weapons know how to move in this area too. The Konus optic is also a few years old, like the rifle, and its 3-12 × 50 values continue to give satisfaction as well as the good accuracy of the turret shots.
We are on line in the late afternoon of a day in early February: the poor light conditions do not affect the surveys and shots to form the three-shot grouping at 100 m. We begin to document with the chronograph the speeds taken at about 2 m from the muzzle, arriving at an average of 894 m / sec (2725 ft / sec) which represent in terms of energy a nice wave of 396 kgm useful for discussing with highly respected game. . The ball is designed to cling to create a wide and deep channel, escaping from the body if it does not meet substantial bones, and therefore not to lose, along the way, part of its mass, if not in minimal entities.
The use of this cartridge in semiautomatics is also recommended for its reduced total length which facilitates resetting; in manual or single-shot repeating rifles it is equally encouraged to fully appreciate what represents the primary quality of the caliber, intrinsic precision. In our test we may have sinned for a moment in the posture of the face on the butt by verticalizing the holes: we are in any case with three holes in a 9 × 28 mm rectangle, and hunting should not encounter difficulties even in shots at the limit of the canonical distance of 300 m. as well as on all huntable ungulates in our territories. In the shooting range that little extra attention certainly allows you to fully appreciate the qualities of this remarkable loading of the Fiocchi.
