Hunting Ammunition: The entrance to the Bows in the field of ammunition for rifles, it certainly could not confine itself to a single range, albeit touching a wide range of calibers: the new series Perfect it is a decidedly appreciable qualitative leap.
di Emmanuel Tabasso
If there is a new one to try cartridge from Fiocchi we are curious and attentive because the Italian manufacturer has always linked us to great satisfactions, allowing us to jump here and there in the vast territory of our gunsmithing passion, giving way to revive old ordinances in short firearms, to find adequate correspondence in shot hunting even with now obsolete calibers, see for example the 24 caliber, now also satisfying the sector of the long rifled gun. At the first series that we have experimented with satisfaction in several calibers, always finding a correct correspondence between cost and yield on the field, we have now moved on to a new refined and specific product for shooting: the series Perfect.
We already express a first appreciation for the Latin lexicon instead of the now banal English, and then for the packaging with attention to materials and appearance: the sturdy cardboard box holds up well to the repeated handling without being marked, and that color that is between the raw and refined, it is immediately identifiable on the shelves and pleasing to the eye; the plastic hive is also resistant, perhaps lending itself to use the shells for some reloads. In this regard, we note that the brass used is of high quality with an excellent elasticity index, guaranteeing perfect firing resistance and advantageous subsequent uses. The seats of the primers do not show signs after the shot and the conformation of the grip groove of the extractor is always regular and functional.
The choice of the ball, precisely aimed at shooting, is appreciable: the Sierra Match King HPBT is an old, very reliable knowledge of all those who love precision at an affordable price and focusing attention on it was a priori a winning move, as well as identify in the weight of 175 grs the point of arrival of the precision shooters.
This mass of ball is unusual for us and certainly gives its best with rather short rifling steps:
for our part we did not have specific shooting guns available, but the test on a Remington 783 gave a remarkable result, considering that the five shots were fired with high external temperature, in succession if not really fast, certainly sent and, from lastly, that the barrel section has a totally hunting purpose. Unfortunately, the second group test we had in mind to conduct with a very honest Baikal whose accuracy we know well, was affected by a problem with the optics reticle, which could not be remedied on site. However, the session did not go empty because we were able to measure the V / 2 which oscillates between 2606 and 2626 ft / sec, therefore between 794 and 800 m / sec, always considerable in relation to the weight of the bullet and the length. of barrel contained in 60 cm.
In both tests we appreciated the contained recoil sensation on light rifles: there is never that pressure peak that is maliciously noticed on the shoulder, the shot starts with a progression and regularity very favorable to concentration for the bracing, posture and, an essential factor, on the shot. This effect, certainly studied in depth in the design of the cartridge, turns out to be a not secondary factor in UIT competitions at 300 m where the competition takes place on 60 shots to which are added, above all, the test ones, perhaps a few, but always a something more that physical and spirit must prepare to bear. The quotation in the armory below € 60,00 for twenty charges seems to us a push for a test and maybe for something more like adoption for the next competitions.
In conclusion the new series Perfect is placed on the market as a prudent and favorable choice for those who love precision shooting: as regards hunting functionality we can only mention how reloads of various calibers with this specific bullet have given positive results thanks also to the correctness in placing the shot.
