Reflections of the WWF
After the terrible floods of recent days which devastated theEmilia Romagna, the WWF has identified and unmasked the main fake news that is circulating these days, contributing, according to it, at the same time to identifying effective solutions to save human lives and avoid billions of euros in damages.
The responsibility of nutrias
One of these fake news concerns coypu, blamed by many for the instability. Here's what the WWF revealed: "94% of Italian municipalities are at risk of collapse due to landslides and floods, and in most of them coypu and other burrowing animals are not present. It is true that locally the burrows dug in the smaller banks can affect their solidity, for this reason solutions are well known (such as the modulation of their slope or the placing of nets) which prevent the excavation".
Structural problems
The environmental association then added in this regard: "Some of the embankments or retaining walls gave way during the tragedy in Emilia-Romagna due to structural problems due to construction defects or lack of monitoring and maintenance".
