The possible solution to the problem
The debate around the wolf emergency is enriched by a prestigious opinion, that of Reinhold Messner. The famous explorer and mountaineer believes that the yak is the solution to the problem, even if it may be surprising to associate such an animal with our country for a series of reasons.
The Italian specimens
First of all, this mammal is typical of Tibet, even if Messner himself underlined that several specimens are present in Italy. Experience abroad has taught us how the yak is capable of defending its young from large predators, including bears, but there is no evidence of this type as far as our borders are concerned.
Loss of biodiversity
In short, the explorer relies heavily on the instinct and spirit of survival of the species, otherwise there is a risk of further destroying mountain agriculture. Messner fears that biodiversity could be lost unless yaks are transformed into an effective remedy for protecting the environment.
