On the occasion of 'Operation Paladins of the Territory, which will take place from 21 to 29 May throughout Italy, the UNA Foundation considers it essential to clarify what the figure of the Paladin is really characterized by, collecting its differentiating characteristics in a Manifesto. The document, drawn up in 10 points, reports the actions that every hunter will have to pursue to act on the territory in a sustainable, responsible and conscious way.
In fact, one of the UNA Foundation's objectives has always been to support a hunting model aimed at maintaining the balance between species in nature, and therefore functional to the preservation of biodiversity, with great attention to the territory and in full respect of the rules.
The Manifesto of the Paladin of the Territory contains the following indications:
Safeguard biodiversity and the natural balance of flora and fauna
Protect protected species and fight against the illegal practice of poaching, which not only poses a problem for wildlife conservation but also damages the reputation of sustainable hunting
Constantly monitor the state of health of the environment in its territory, for example by detecting situations at risk of fire or the spread of diseases in wildlife
Intervening with problematic fauna to protect the balance of fauna, habitat, water network, forest heritage and agricultural enterprises, and public safety.
Be an active part in solving the pollution problems of the territory through the organization of initiatives open to citizens
Support local communities in the event of environmental and health emergencies, as occurred through donations to organizations, associations and hospitals during the Covid-19 pandemic, and now in the monitoring, containment and prevention of the spread of African swine fever or other diseases fauna.
Promote the development of a completely traceable game meat supply chain, acquiring the technical and operational skills for the correct treatment of the large game carcass and, subsequently, enhancing its sustainability characteristics and nutritional quality
Promote a modern concept of hunting, also to be understood as an activity that works in favor of environmental sustainability and for the benefit of the community and the territory.
Dialogue and confront in an open and free from prejudice with the other actors involved in the themes of rurality and ecology, to find new spaces for collaboration to protect the environment and biodiversity.
To be proudly witness and increasingly spokesperson of a model of responsible hunter, who takes care of the environment, the territory and the community.
It is in this perspective that the UNA Foundation recognizes a key role for the hunter in promoting a sustainable hunting model, because only a hunting activity characterized by a strong sense of ethics and responsibility is able to safeguard the biodiversity of the territories.
With Operation Paladins of the Territory, the hunting realities together with the individual hunters demonstrate the concrete commitment to protecting the environment, meeting the principles that guide the actions of each Paladin. In a short time, the UNA Foundation has collected memberships from over 70 local sections of Italian hunting associations operating in 15 different regions, which will carry out restoration and / or cleaning activities in areas affected by pollution caused by man, and are ( constantly updated list):
