Fox hunting. Hundreds of indignant and horrified citizens have chosen the path of mail bombing at the resolution with which the Province of Teramo approved the "Fox containment plan": the text provides that until April 10 "teams composed of voluntary wildlife guards assisted by ecological guards and with the supervision of the Provincial Police will be able to hunt foxes with the technique of the turn with three dogs".
WWF and Gadit, the national environmental guards of Italy, have already requested the withdrawal of the measure because "culling is carried out without ecological containment methods having been implemented (prescribed by law)", with the hunting to the fox "in the period in which all the fauna in the area is in the production phase".
And in these hours they have reached 250 thousand views, shares, "likes" and comments on the Enpa Facebook page "against the horrible slaughter of foxes, including females and puppies, wanted by the Province of Teramo".
Hundreds of protest emails are arriving at the personal mailboxes of the president and councilors of the Province, as well as the editorial offices of newspapers, from all over Italy: there are those who appeal to human sensitivity towards defenseless animals, those who threaten not to return to visit the green Abruzzo, who say they are indignant and incredulous and shout "shame".
"It is no coincidence - specify WWF and Gadit - that the plan did not have the favorable opinion of Ispra", the Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research. Always WWF and Gadit point out that "in addition to the damage to the foxes, the decision creates enormous problems for all the other fauna, roe deer, badgers, hares, disturbed by gunshots and hunting dogs in one of the most delicate phases of life". The Province's decision would only be "a gift to the side-by-side lobby".
"By now people are indignant and disconcerted by the cruelty of measures such as that of the Province of Teramo and by possible favoritism to the hunting lobby - says Andrea Brutti of the Enpa Wild Fauna Office - but also by the fact that there is a consolidated jurisprudence on the subject, deliberately ignored by those who are salaried precisely to enforce the rules. Not only politicians, but also officials for whom Enpa does not exclude an intervention at the Court of Auditors ”.
