The regional section of the Friuli Venezia Giulia ofNational Free Hunting Association has arranged for Sunday 24th April a practical hunting test intended for both pointing and hunting dogs: the wild animal chosen is the quail and thedejection. This is a very important test, as it will be valid as a selection for the Trophy of the North Free Hunting Center. Going into more detail of the event, the place selected for the event is the "Rosa di San Vito" dog area which is located in Tagliamento, in the province of Pordenone. Participation will be admitted to all hunters, therefore it is not necessary to be registered with the organizing association, but it is necessary to be in possession of valid documents (as required by law).
As specified by Libera Caccia, among other things, the dog test on quails will take place regardless of atmospheric conditions, consequently the rain will not be an impediment to regularity. The race will start at 7 in the morning: as regards the regulation, however, the participants will know it in exactly three weeks, since it will be exhibited at the registration stand within the Friuli dog area. San Vito al Tagliamento boasts just over 15 thousand inhabitants and is made up of several hamlets closely linked to popular traditions. The first edition of the Italian Free Hunting Northern Quail Championship dates back to last summer, when it was organized in Albairate, in the province of Milan.
In that case seven regions of our North participated, with the final victory awarded to Emilia Romagna (65 points overall), followed by Veneto (58,5 points) and Lombardy (56 points). Some regulatory ideas can be obtained, as usual, from theItalian National Dog-loving Body (ENCI). Both pointing and hunting dogs are involved, therefore the judging criteria will take into consideration the style of the breeds: judges normally assign maximum importance to the power of the animals' sense of smell, but also to the ease of encounter, the regularity with which the search is carried out and the perfection of dressage.
No less fundamental are the details relating to evaluation of errors made by competitors in the race. Indeed, dog judges are obliged to consider them with greater indulgence still that go empty, bearing in mind that there can be many in the field emanations left by the quails used for the previous rounds. There are still three weeks left for the appointment, but the expectations are very high and ambitious, the hope is that the show will be up to par.
