Free Hunting: Siena, the control of problematic species on the provincial territory in application of Article 37 of the Regional Law 3/94 seems to be feasible in all the Tuscan provinces but not in the Province of Siena.
From a detailed analysis of the application of Article 37 of Regional Law 3/94 (which, to be understood, governs the interventions for the containment of predators and problematic species) in the various Provinces of Tuscany, differences of various kinds emerge. However, all the Tuscan Provinces allow, albeit with different modalities and conditions, the control of corvids, of the fox and wild boar, there is only one exception: SIENA. The Province of Siena, which also had been the first in Tuscany to use Larsen traps in the control of magpie and hooded crow and the killing of foxes at night, by vehicle with the aid of the lighthouse or by stalking with the use of bait, today paradoxically it is the only Tuscan Province to find itself in the condition of not being able in any way to control the presence of these predators within public (ZRC and ZRV) and private (AFV) Institutes.
It is therefore of the utmost urgency to overcome this absurd and incomprehensible difference. It is necessary to mobilize all energy to allow the Province of Siena, like the other Tuscan Provinces, to manage and protect its heritage of small sedentary game.
Time is running out. For example, in the month of April the suitable period for the control of the Corvids will begin through the use of Larsen traps. If we do not want the Province of Siena to remain without this important intervention for this year as well, we must urgently request the relative authorizations: no more and not even as it will happen in the rest of the region.
The same speech must be made for the control of the fox at the den through the use of suitable dogs. Not to mention the control of the boar, essential not only to protect agricultural crops, but also the natural reproduction of small sedentary game, both in unsuitable areas and within public and private institutions. In conclusion, all hunting associations, EPS and agricultural associations are called to carry out their task with the utmost care and strength.
