In the Valle delle Mandriole and Punte Alberete (Valle delle Canna), a Ravenna, places entrusted by the Emilia-Romagna Region to the Po Delta Park, a real tragedy is taking place. One faunal havoc and environmental which shows, once again, the total failure of the so-called "protected" areas left to themselves and in the most complete abandonment. We are talking about one of the most important freshwater marshes in Italy, in the past used as an accumulation basin for fresh water for the aqueduct of Ravenna. Now, both the Municipality and the Park Authority, forgetting everything and above all the fundamental importance of water recirculation, have gradually let everything rot, in the name of an alleged safeguarding biodiversity.
Certainly a precious and commendable goal which, as recent events show, is certainly not attainable through disinterest and total absence of interventions. When these areas were managed by hunters - the true and perhaps only sentinels of the environment - nothing was left to chance and the environment was kept in excellent condition for the sake of wildlife and biodiversity. Unfortunately, the marshy areas are not new to these dramatic episodes in which there is an inadmissible death of aquatic birds caused by putrid waters which are a source of deadly bacterial explosions not only for the fauna but also for the flora. For days the hunters, coordinated by the municipal guards and by the others in charge of the various bodies, are working en masse for the recovery of dead animals affected by Botox and above all to try to save those still alive.
But the situation is tragic: a real massacre is taking place with several thousand waterfowl and waders dead in excruciating suffering. Only a small part of them, still alive, are treated in the field aviaries set up in record time. The volunteers who are working tirelessly are for the most part while hunters there are very few environmentalists working alongside them. But as often happens in our country, after the enormous damage and all these efforts, the joke has also arrived, that is the determination of suspension of the hunt within a radius of 3 km. from these places, up to a date to be defined, indiscriminately for all species, even for those that are not in the least affected by these problems.
In short, the very ones who created the problem and who should sit in the dock, they have become the severe "censors" of the common good. However, this absurd and demagogic will not determine to scratch our civic sense of responsibility and respect for the environment, and to demotivate us. And even in the next few days, unlike those who defend nature only in words, we hunters will be in Valle a to volunteer. In any case, once the emergency is over, we will turn to those in charge to ask for formal explanations and denounce those who have not been able to manage this protected area, safeguarding its precious biodiversity.
Unfortunately, in Italy there are countless green areas plundered from the hunting world and then left to total abandonment with the approval of a failed policy. The time has come for these environmental incompetents to pay for their misdeeds, their inefficiency. The time has come for the media terrorism of the hunting world to stop. The time has come that, whoever is competent, moves against this biased policy which does nothing but encourage unfounded prejudices towards civilized and honest citizens such as hunters. Enough, enough, that's it.
