The Veneto section ofNational Free Hunting Association turned to the governor of the region, Luca Zaia, the regional councilor Giuseppe Pan and the president of the III Council Commission, Sergio Berlato, to ask that the two days of pre-opening wood pigeon hunting. The operation was hoped for through an appropriate modification of the hunting calendar 2016-2017. The hunting association was very clear in this regard.
As announced in an official statement, this hunt is a well-established practice that has characterized the last five years of the Venetian plains. The fact that this year it was decided to ban it is difficult to explain, also because "the choice is devoid of shared justifications".
Still according to Libera Caccia de Veneto, the conscious hunter knows perfectly well that this species is constantly increasing, without forgetting that the bird is not only located in the woods of the province of Venice, but has “conquered” the entire region. Among other things, the association's data revealed a further fact. The wood pigeon has been subjected for several years to an important and intense hunting pressure, but the increase did not stop (as also highlighted by the Ministry of Agriculture).
